Mrs. Neerja Birla, Chairperson of the Aditya Birla Education Trust, has always inspired us to explore diverse opportunities that enable holistic growth for our children. Under her visionary leadership, Infinity, an inter-school mathematics competition, was conceived as a platform to nurture the immense potential, passion, and joy that students derive from Mathematics.
In 2014, Mrs. Radhika Sinha and Mr. Prodipta Hore proposed the idea of hosting an inter-school mathematics competition at Aditya Birla World Academy.
Their brainchild had a simple yet powerful objective - to make Mathematics fun. The goal was to instil a genuine love for the subject through engaging and interactive rounds, both individual and team-based, while bringing together a community of Mathematics educators and students on a platform for shared learning and collaboration.
Infinity is held in association with the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani. Each year, the Mathematics team at Aditya Birla World Academy, in collaboration with BITS professors, designs the rules and questions for every round, reviews them meticulously, and plans every detail of the competition. The event is further enriched by the guidance of renowned mathematicians — Dr. James Tanton, Dr. Mark Saul, and Dr. I. K. Rana.
Our vision has always been to make this competition truly international in spirit and to spread the love for Mathematics far and wide. What began as a city-level initiative with 12 participating schools from Mumbai in 2014, soon grew into a national and then an international competition.
Key objectives of Infinity include:
Developing students’ analytical and critical thinking skills — competencies that extend far beyond mathematics.
Designing engaging rounds that effectively identify and nurture mathematical talent.
Challenging the misconception that Mathematics is a difficult or monotonous subject, by making it enjoyable and dynamic.
We look forward to the enthusiastic participation of your school in Infinity 2026 — where young minds come together to celebrate the beauty and brilliance of Mathematics!
